CBD can help you with a wide variety of issues, but how potent should your CBD be? This week we’re explaining how to figure out which CBD strength is right for you.

Whether you’re just now starting to explore the world of CBD or if you’ve already sampled a few products, understanding which CBD strength is right for you can be the difference between relief and frustration.
Many people who used CBD but never felt effects simply weren’t taking enough. On the flip side, people who used CBD and found themselves needing a nap in the middle of the day might have been taking too much.
That’s why this week we want to talk about all the different factors that go into finding out which CBD strength is right for you. While figuring that out may be tricky, once you get the hang of it you’ll experience a whole world of relief.
General Rules About CBD Dosing and Strength
CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive, legal cannabinoid that helps people in a variety of ways. It’s a powerful anti-inflammatory, a pain reliever, it can help people manage stress and anxiety, and overall it helps promote more balance throughout your body. If you couldn’t tell, we’re pretty obsessed with it.
One question we get asked a lot, however, is what CBD strength should people be using. Not only is this a fantastic question, but it’s also one that you may want to discuss with your doctor before moving forward.
While CBD is generally accepted as a mild supplement, it still has a few potential side effects and it may interact with certain medications. So, just to be on the safe side, always consult with your doctor before taking any new supplements.
In general, however, here are a few factors that will influence the strength of CBD you might need:
If you have a particularly fast metabolism, you may feel the effects of your CBD faster. By that same logic, however, you may end up needing to take multiple doses throughout the day as your body will metabolize the CBD so quickly. The other option is to take a larger dose of CBD that will last you longer, but that depends on what you’re trying to treat and how well your body responds to CBD.
We may become wiser as we age, but sometimes our bodies develop sensitivities too. Younger people may need more CBD because their metabolisms are faster, conversely, the older you get the less you might need. However, depending on what you’re trying to treat, your body may still need a higher dose of CBD.
What Are You Treating?
Depending on whether you’re trying to manage anxiety, deal with chronic pain, or even just sleep better, you’ll need a different CBD strength. In general, you’ll need a less powerful CBD strength for anxiety and stress than you will for pain and insomnia.
The Strength/Concentration of Your CBD
If your product only has 500mg of CBD in it, you would need to take a lot more of it to feel the same effects you might experience from a bottle with 2000mg of CBD. That’s why it makes sense for some people to purchase “stronger” CBD, and for other people to purchase CBD products that might not be as concentrated.
The truth is, everybody is different and we all react differently to new compounds. That’s why it’s so important to do your homework and pay attention to your body when you’re trying a new supplement.
What Does “CBD Strength” Really Mean?
If you have a bottle, for example, of 2000mg CBD Oil, does that mean every dose will have 2000mg of CBD in it? No!
When we say “CBD Strength,” we’re referring to the amount of CBD in the entire bottle. The “dose” is how much CBD you’ll be using each time you use your product. It’s easy to get confused with all the numbers being thrown around, so we’ll break it down for you.
Say you have a 1oz/30ml bottle of CBD Oil that says it contains 2000mg of CBD in it. Most standard droppers (but not all) can hold roughly 1 ml of liquid in them. By that math, your 1oz bottle should have about 30 servings in it. When you divide the 2000mg of CBD by the number of servings, you’ll figure out that one 1ml serving should have around 66mg of CBD in it.
Not everyone needs an entire dropper full, especially if you’re just starting out. In fact, if you’re new to CBD, we recommend starting with the lowest possible dose.
Pro Tip: Keep a journal of your CBD strength, dose, how often you take another dose, and how each dose makes you feel. You can use a small journal or even just keep it in a note on your phone. This will help you keep track of everything as you experiment with what strength/dose works best for you.
If You’re New to CBD, Start Low and Go Slow
For those of you who are doing your research before trying CBD, we recommend starting with a bottle of 1000mg CBD Oil. Even if you’re using CBD to manage severe chronic pain, it’s important that you introduce your body to a new supplement slowly over time.
In a 1oz bottle of 1000mg CBD, each 1ml dropper should have about 33mg of CBD. If you feel like that dose is too high, you can always take half a dropper full (which makes this option even more cost-effective).
|If it turns out that you are particularly sensitive to CBD, we even offer a low strength 500mg CBD Oil option that will only have about 17mg of CBD in each dropper. For the majority of people, this isn’t quite enough CBD, but for anyone with a low tolerance, this can be the perfect solution.|
If you find relief with CBD that’s less concentrated, then hooray! Keep up that regimen and notice all the ways that CBD starts to improve your life. If, however, the 1000mg concentration just doesn’t cut it, consider bumping the strength up to 2000mg. Luckily, if you’re trying to manage anxiety and stress, the 1000mg CBD strength should be perfect.
For Anxiety and Stress Try a Bottle of 1000mg CBD Oil
The majority of people who are using CBD to manage anxiety and stress will need a bottle of 1000mg CBD Oil. Again, the strength you need might vary and that’s totally fine!
Whether you’re just trying to manage daily stress from work or perhaps a more severe anxiety disorder, several studies have shown the effectiveness of CBD at treating anxiety.
While many people battling anxiety may be tempted to take a dose the moment they experience panic, over time a regular CBD regimen will reduce the number of anxiety attacks. Once you understand which dose works best for you, however, you may consider keeping some CBD Gummies on hand in case of an emergency.
For Pain and Insomnia Try a Bottle of 2000mg CBD Oil
Those who are attempting to treat pain or insomnia will generally need a higher concentration of CBD. Again, we want to remind you that even if this is why you’re using CBD, you’ll want to start with a much lower concentration. If, however, you know that your body can handle a more concentrated product, then expect maximum relief with a bottle of 2000mg CBD Oil.
Like we said earlier, for a 1oz bottle of 2000mg CBD Oil, each 1ml dropper will have roughly 66mg of CBD. You may need the entire dropper, or you may want to only use half a dropper full. Either way, figure out what works best for you and stick to it!
Figure Out What CBD Strength is Right For You
Just like with any other supplement or even medications, their effectiveness can oftentimes depend on how much of them you’re actually taking. That’s why it’s so important to take the time to determine what an appropriate dose is for you.
This process could take several weeks or even months. It may be tempting to pump up your dose as quickly as possible, but remember that it takes time for your body to adjust to a new supplement. You might not feel relief after the first dose, especially when you’re starting out at a particularly low dose. Just be patient, take your time, and soon enough you’ll be feeling better and living more.
